Beaches on Oahu

One of the greatest attractions on Oahu are the beaches. As mentioned on the home page, Oahu has some of the best reef protected beaches in the Pacific like Waikiki, Kahala, Ala Moana and San Souci. Many of them are just 10-15 minutes away from Heavenly Valley. Places in Kahala Beach are almost deserted even on the weekends.

On the Windward side of the island about 30 minutes away are a couple of lovely beaches, Kailua and neighboring Lanikai Beaches.

If you like surfing, Oahu has dozens of surf areas just a few minutes away including Ala Moana bowls, Waikiki where the kings of Hawaii used to surf. Diamond Head, Queens, and Old Man's beaches are other favorites. For more challenging body board beaches Makapuu, Sandy and Bellows are about a 20 minutes away.

Oahu has some of the best surfing areas in the world. The waves are formed in the North Pacific and pick up speed as they approach the Hawaii Islands. These beaches are found on the North Shore about an hours drive away. Here the top wave riders in the world come to compete. The most famous breaches are Pipeline, Waimea Bay, Sunset, and Haleiwa. On the Leeward or west side of the island, Makaha is a famous surfing area. There are many more great surfing areas not mentioned.

Windsurfing and Kite Surfing

Oahu has great wind and kite surfing areas including Diamond Head and Kahala Beaches. Kailu Beach about 1/2 hour away is very popular also. Many people also go to the North Shore to wind and kite surf.
